The Pioneer Woman In Denver
Last weekend, Ree Drummond, (The Pioneer Woman) was in Denver signing her new cookbook, Food From My Frontier.
My girlfriends and I are always looking for a good reason to the fly the coop, and get the heck out of town…so we went.
I discovered The Pioneer Woman shortly after I started blogging, and well, fell in love with her, and her blog.
It’s a four hour drive to Denver, so that’s a good reason to get a hotel and just call it a girls weekend away. My sister-in-law and I drove up together. Her sister drove all the way from Kansas to meet us. Our good friend…you remember the birthday girl from our ski trip, met us there, also.
There were a few little tiny things that made for a good laugh.
I won’t go into details, but here’s a glimpse.
I put on someone else’s bra. It was very early in the morning. And hey, it sort of looked like mine. In the dark.
I forgot my deodorant. But good friends share stuff. Right?
I forgot my camera. What blogger forgets their camera?? Lucky for me, my home team brought theirs.
Oh, and one other little thing.
As I said earlier, we are always looking for a good excuse for a girls weekend. Well, one of my ‘homies’ isn’t really familiar with the whole blogging thing. I know! *GASP*
So, when she received a text about the trip…*note*…the person sending the text goofed up and her phone did that auto text thingy. And I don’t think she was wearing her glasses. It went something like this…
Hey, we are going to Denver to see Rhodes Woman at her book signing. Wanna go?
Sure! Sounds great. Count me in!!
But…uh…who is The Rhodes Woman?
See. We will get together even if we don’t know who or what the reason is!
Anyhooooo, Ree was a doll!
Here she is signing for one of our crew.
Ree and I follow each other on Twitter, and I have been lucky enough for her send me a few tweets.
So, the plan was, for me to tell her my name, and the Twitter connection.
But, I was having a hot flash.
And… finding it difficult to form complete sentences.
So, my gal in the picture said, “This is Darcie from My Modern…” that’s all the farther she got.
And, Ree threw her arms open and HUGGED me. So, I hugged her.
And squeezed her.
And patted her.
And told her I loved her.
And…called her George. heh heh (just kidding, but I wanted to)
It was such a treat meeting Ree, but the whole weekend was a blast!
We slept in.
We went out and ate fabulous food.
We shopped.
We may, or may not, have had cocktails.
And…someone else made our beds and picked up our towels.
Ahhh. It was a perfect weekend!

What a super getaway for you and your friends! I wish that Ree would sign her books somewhere near where I live but I do live out in the sticks so I am not going to hold my breath! Glad that you got to meet her and had a fun trip!

Wow! What a great weekend. And how wonderful to meet The Pioneer Woman. Her blog is amazing. How does she do it all? Girls weekends are always the best but I like to wear my own lingerie! And to come home with your very own signed copy of her cookbook after a hug and a photo – that's just great. You must still be on a high xx

Oh my goodness! "…and called her George." My daughter and I used to throw that line into our conversations a long time ago. I think it was from a cartoon? Thanks for the reminder. Your weekend looks like fun, glad you were able to go, and get to meet The Pioneer Woman in real life!

What fun and how great too. I thought of going up, it's 5 hours from north of Taos, New Mexico. She is such a real person and it's so cool that she knew you without further introductions. I follow Kate from Chronicles of a Country Girl (love her blog too) and she received a signed cookbook from Ree. I just love that about her.
and now I've found your blog through her comments.
makes it all a small world once the same people get to know one another.
peace n abundance,
