Dump Cake…No Mixing Allowed!

I’m sure most of you have heard of Dump Cake, but just in case you haven’t….let me share this crazy, easy, yummy recipe.  I know it’s in millions of cookbooks, and on a gazillion blogs, but I got my recipe from my mom.

This is cake is perfect for a potluck, which is exactly why I made this recently.  Hence, the ugly disposable pan.

One other little tid-bit…my favorite way to enjoy this cake is:  warm out of the oven and…..drum roll…a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.  Oh lawdy it’s good.

Only five ingredients:  1 large can crushed pineapple
                                  1 can cherry pie filling
                                  1 yellow cake mix
                                  1/2 cup chopped pecans
                                  2 sticks butter

Dump  undrained  pineapple in a greased 9×13 pan.  Spread to corners.

Dump cherry pie filling and spread evenly.  Remember…No Mixing Allowed!

I sprinkle a little sugar on top of the cherry pie filling.  It’s not in the recipe, but my mom told me too!

Next, dump the cake mix in and gently spread.

 Sprinkle on the chopped pecans.

Final step:  place thin squares of butter all over the top.  I’m not sure what the deal is with that one bright yellow one in the middle…nothing makes sense anymore.

Bake at 350 for one hour.

I wish I had made two of these.  You have no idea how hard it was not to grab a spoon and the vanilla ice cream.  Since it was a potluck and all, I figured I better restrain myself.
